   Be aware that you may receive the Japanese Nintendo switch OLED box/packaging!! It is a Switch and not some random knockoff device which worried me at first. Set up was super easy, and offered English as first choice during set up process. I’ve played (only handheld) almost everyday since purchasing and I haven’t run into any issues as of yet!

   After ordering this, before it was delivered, I was reading some reviews and I had become worried. I was worried because some people said they received China edition OR they were unsealed boxes, implying they were refurbished or clones.My order was fulfilled by, sold by and shipped through Nintendoswitch.us.com LLC. The product that arrived was the USA edition with the USA power adapter. And the serial number bar code in the cardboard “window” was still there. That is expected and that was good to see.I also did a little research regarding how Nintendo ships their OLED Switches. They do NOT ship with the box shrink wrapped. So if you are concerned about getting a non-shrink wrapped packaging, don’t worry because that is normal.Also, the corners of the box had a little indentation and even very slight tear right at the corners, but that is also normal. That is how mine came (see my photo of packaging box) and I’ve viewed alot of other Switch OLED unboxing and they all had similar appearance. So don’t fret.However, if I did receive a China edition packaged with a US power adapter converted, I would’ve definitely sent it back because that’s not what I ordered and who knows where it came from or if it’s a Chinese clone, etc.Anyways, back to the “review”. I’m a 53 yr old oldtime gamer. I was raised on Atari 2600, Intellevision, Super Nintendo, Plastation 1-3, N64, XBOX 1st gen through Xbox One-S. Then I stopped playing video games because I was getting neck aches from looking up at a TV all the time when I’m not working.Today I’m getting back into gaming! So happy and I can sit in my nice comfortable leather chair and play my games again! Next I may get a steamdeck, but I think this Switch will be my go to for quite some time :)Thanks,Benny

   The switch itself has no major issues but the charging dock does not allow me to switch to the TV using the HDMI. It charges perfectly but whenever the switch is installed into the dock the screen does NOT turn off and switch over. Considering returning as its kind of annoying when I want to play on the TV.UPDATE: The seller quickly contacted me and sent me a replacement dock. It only took a few extra days to arrive.

    I purchased the new OLED model for my son as Christmas is soon approaching. Unfortunately the box I received looked as if it’s been opened before/already?! The switch was not sealed, had no sticker or tape on the box. The corner was also damaged and looked as if it was from being open and bent? The unit itself looked fine but nothing seemed packaged as if it was brand new. Everything was just in a clear plastic bag and looked as if it was repackaged!

    Cons:Not advertised as a Japanese edition switch, the online code will not work and the box came slightly damaged. Luckily I did my research so didn’t panic when I received a JP edition.For a collector, someone that cares about presentation (as a gift) damaged packaging could be a deal breaker.It came in a thin layer of bubble wrap, and a regular mailing bag. So I was concerned for the protection of it, especially considering that the switch is directly on top when you open the Nintendo box.Pros: Japanese Edition works just the same. They are not region locked, nor are the games. There is no issue with HDMI and charger, they plugged in just fine. It came with everything in the box, HDMI cord, C charger, Dock, switch, joycons, controller and two wrist straps.Keep in mind, with a Japanese switch, certain warranties may not be covered. I’ve been able to download games, complete initial setup, connect to Internet, etc just fine. Runs smoothly and set up was great even without directions. It walks you through the whole thing. Overall it’s a great device and I’d give it 5 stars but the seller, packaging, handling and advertisement is 2 or 3 stars.Additionally, if you decide you don’t mind getting a Japanese edition, find one cheaper as they usually cost about $40 less. There is a misconception that a Japanese edition is a fake, it’s not. It’s just bought from Japan so will have Japanese writing and directions but still do your research.

    This moderate upgrade of the Nintendo Switch is definitely worth spending an extra $50 to get if you are already in the market for a new Switch. The most important question though, is if it’s worth it for the people who already own a Switch. This depends a lot on personal preference as well as how old your current switch is (and if you own the original HAC001 from 2017-2019 or the V2 that released in late summer of 2019). I mostly play in handheld mode because that is what this console excels at, for playing on a TV/Monitor, there are plenty of better options.So what do you get with this OLED model? You get a larger screen that is OLED instead of IPS LCD. This is the type of screen that most iPhones have used since 2017 (and all of them use it now except for the SE2). You get a better contrast ratio, meaning deeper blacks and brighter colors/whites. There is no HDR support like Dolby Vision or HDR10, but it still looks leagues better than all the other Switch models. The smaller borders around the screen make the device look more modern and it’s the size they should have gone with from the beginning (even if the logistics of using OLED wasn’t feasible in 2017). There is also improved speakers, they do sound better and make the games your playing sound larger and more immersive. It’s not as big of a difference as the new screen is to the old screen, but it’s still a good thing to include.Another new features is a better kickstand that is more like that of a Surface Pro tablet, allowing the Switch to be able to lean all the way back and be much more sturdy while doing so. This isn’t really important unless you play in tabletop mode, but this is more realistic of a way to use this console with the screen being just that much bigger, I could see myself using a Pro controller and sitting the switch down for certain types of games.The last difference here is the dock, which has a built in Ethernet port, which you should really use if you have the option to go wired. Unlike in the previous model “regular Switch”, a wired connection is basically twice as fast as using standard WiFI, before it was only about 1.5x as fast. It still is unfortunate that you cannot achieve 100Mbps download speeds, but 60-65 is better than the 40-45 I was getting on my older model.If I had to oversimplify who should buy the OLED model, I would say that these two types of people should buy the OLED (even if they already have a Switch Lite or V2) It would be: techie people who are nerdy about their tech and want the best they can get (even when they don’t need it), and serious gamers who sink hundreds and hundreds of hours into playing the Switch in handheld mode.Also, I don’t know that we need to specify this anymore because the switch OLED has largely been in stock since early January. But I did not and would not pay one penny more than $350 (plus tax) for this console. I think it’s worth that price if you love Nintendo characters/games, but I don’t think the hardware is worth more than $400 and the tax gets it pretty close to that.

    The ONLY reason this is 4 stars is because I received the wrong color. Obviously this isn’t the Mario Red Limited Edition that I’m reviewing. However the seller gave me a partial refund for the incorrect item received. This product also came way quicker than expect. This one is Japanese, and I’m in the US but it works completely fine so if you receive a non US one don’t sweat it. The plug is the same. Overall this OLED is beautiful. It’s a bit lighter then the original switch too. I bought it for a friend and they seem to love it even though it’s not the Mario one. Thank you to Emma’s Market (the seller) for quick shipping and EXCELLENT customer service.

    I received it fine but like someone else said in a review all paperwork is in Japanese. I am one that likes to read everything so I cant on this. I dont know if there are any special deals or to register it properly. Works fine everything is in English on the console itself. The color of the red controller is not red it’s neon something. But it’s pretty easy to play. Just have to YouTube it if you don’t want to return it.

    UPDATE: The console performs exactly like a US Version. So the only down side is that they don’t tell you it’s Old Japan Stock & the Free 30 Days of Nintendo Switch Online is expired.Japanese Model! This listing is deceptive! It says English language. As you can see from the pictures, it is NOT English! I’m not sure how this will affect gameplay yet… When I do I will update!
