Like others have mentioned, out of the box, the left Joycon does not click in, and can slide out easily with just an upwards push on the stick or any part of the Joycon.
I have found that the left Joycon can be clicked in securely after using an Xacto knife to scrape away a bit of plastic on the lower rail of the grip near the button retention mechanism, and then giving the button a little press after inserting as far as it goes. After doing that, the Joycon stays in nicely.
With that all done in a few minutes, it works nicely. Comfortable, and the price was right. It came with a fairly long USB-C cable too, which was a welcome surprise.

Rolled the dice on an aftermarket grip and lost.
The Joy-Cons do not properly latch in the grip so moderate pressure on the analogs in the upward direction causes them to pop out of the housing. Another reviewer had mentioned this problem but made it sound like a mild annoyance. It is a constant irritation and after 30 minutes it is near enraging.
In fairness, I didn’t test any other functionality of the grip because it failed at its one main function. Sending back to Nintendoswitch.us.com for a refund.

Works just as advertised. Love the one port charging feature the handles are alot more comfortable than the originals since the grips handles are a bit lower. I have big hand, my mate las small hands and she still likes it better as well.
